Russian Pro Nikolay Evdakov Passes Away
- Jessica Welman | February 7, 2012
Sad news hit the poker world today as Nikolay Evdakov’s widow, Nataliya Evdakov, announced that her husband passed away on Monday. Nataliya announced Evdakov’s passing on the Russian poker forum he founded, CGM.ru. Evdakov was 47 years old. His wife did not reveal Evdakov’s cause of death.
The Russian poker pro made his name in the poker world when he set the record for the most cashes in a single World Series of Poker. Evdakov cashed in 10 different events at the 2008 WSOP, besting the previous record of eight cashes. In only five years on the circuit, Evdakov racked up over $1.5 million in career tournament earnings. His career highlights include a final table appearance in the 2009 WSOP $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, a seventh place showing in the 2011 WSOP $25,000 Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em Championship, two LA Poker Classic Titles and a ninth place showing in the 2010 WPT Championship at the Bellagio.
Evdakov’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at Troekurov Cemetery. In the meantime, many people in the poker world turned to Twitter to offer their condolences to Evdakov’s family and friends:
BLUFF Magazine also sends our condolences to Evdakov’s friends and family, especially his wife and children. He was a true force in the Russian poker community both as a player and as a man who helped bring players together with his popular poker forum. Those who wish to express their condolences are encouraged to do so in a thread on CGM.
