Steve Billirakis Makes History at World Series of Poker

Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis entered his name into the record books last night at the World Series of Poker as he won the $5,000 World Championship of Mixed Limit/No Limit Hold ‘em at 21 years and 11 days, becoming the youngest bracelet winner in the 38 year history of the WSOP.

The Chicago-based online poker pro earned $536,287 for his historic victory.

The record for youngest bracelet winner has now been broken four years in a row. Gavin Griffin set it in ‘04, Eric Froehlich in ‘05, Jeff Madsen in ‘06 and now Steve Billirakis in ‘07. If Billirakis wins another bracelet before the Main Event, he will claim the title as the youngest player to win two bracelets, a record currently held by Madsen and formerly held by Froehlich.

“I’m just really happy to get lucky enough to win,” Billirakis said in an interview with Lacey Jones from WorldSeriesofPoker.com.
