WSOP By The Numbers: The Main Event Final Table

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP Main Event final table by the numbers:

1 Average rating over the six hours of Tuesday coverage on ESPN, per Wicked Chops Poker.  While down from lat year’s two-hour edited version, the broadcast managed to sustain viewership despite a lengthy heads-up match against two less than talkative players.

2 Number of Germans to ever make the WSOP Main Event final table.  Pius Heinz is the first German Main Event winner, but Henry Nowakowski was the first German to make the final nine.  He finished seventh in 2001.  Nowakowski is 37th on the all-time German money earner’s list with $624,262 in lifetime earnings.  Heinz is first on that list by a $5 million margin.

6 Finishing position for both Donnacha and Eoghan O’Dea. The two are the first father and son to both make the WSOP Main Event final table and they each finished in sixth place. However, while the elder O’Dea picked up $43,220 for his finish, his son fared far better with a more than $1.7 million payday.

9 Number of chip lead changes over the course of final table play.  Only one of those chip leads transpired on the first day of final table play, when Pius Heinz took the chip lead from Martin Staszko.  Only two did not transpire heads-up.  Staszko took the chip lead back by eliminating Ben Lamb during three-handed action.  The other seven lead changes all took place over the course of a length heads-up battle.

9 Number of Czech players in this year’s WSOP Main Event field, per the WSOP’s official Twitter feed, @WSOP.  The Czech’s comprised just .013% of the field, but captured 8.4% of the prize pool thanks to Martin Staszko’s runner-up finish.  Staszko is now far and away the most profitable Czech player in poker history. His next closest competitor is Jan Skampa who has just over $1.4 million in lifetime earnings.

51 Number of hands before Sam Holden busted in ninth place.  Holden came in as the short stack, but spent some of his time at the final table in a spot besides the bottom of the totem pole.  Even though he held on for a while, the young Brit was still the first player to exit the final table.

119 Number of hands of heads-up action.  It is the longest bout of heads-up play of the post-Moneymaker era and lasted around five hours.

175 Cost in dollars for the Hugo Boss Sporty Zip Up Hoodie, per Hugo Boss’ official website.  Unfortunately for those looking to mimic Pius Heinz’s now-signature look, the hoodie is currently sold out in all sizes.

9,858 Number of dollars the interest bearing account holding the eighth through first place paydays  generated over the course of July to November.  That interest was divvied up by the same percentages as the payday, with Heinz taking home $3,691 of it.

5,960,852 Total dollars won by Ben Lamb over the course of this WSOP. The WSOP Player of the Year earned more money than any other player this year but Pius Heinz. Thanks to his 2011 bounty, Lamb is now 13th on the all-time WSOP money list. Allen Cunningham is the only player ahead of Lamb on that list who did not finish first or second in the WSOP Main Event. Lamb’s career WSOP earnings come to $6,178,387.

WSOPE By The Numbers: That’s A Wrap

The 2011 World Series of Poker Europe is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the event. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOPE by the numbers:

0 Number of women to make a WSOPE final table this year.  After a summer where several women fared well in WSOP events, including posting two runner-up finishes, the events in Cannes were generally a bust.  Only three women have ever made WSOPE final tables.  The last woman to final table a WSOPE event was Linda Lee, who posted a seventh place finish in 2008.

1 Number of WSOP cashes for 25 year-old poker pro Elio Fox.  Fox’s win in the WSOPE Main Event was his first-ever cash under the WSOP banner.  Fox only has five career cashes to his credit, three of which are wins.

4 Number of players in the top ten of the BLUFF Player of the Year race who cashed in the WSOPE Main Event.  The entire series had a huge impact on the race, with the Main Event producing some big shifts, including Matt Waxman’s move to the number two spot, Chris Moorman’s jump to fifth, Elio Fox’s leap to sixth, and Erik Seidel’s move to eighth.

10 Finishing position in the WSOPE Main Event for Arnaud Mattern.  Mattern was the top finisher from the events home country of France, but he fell short of the final table, busting out in tenth place after his aces were cracked.

17 Number of WSOP cashes for Shawn Buchanan between 2010 and 2011.  Considered one of the most consistent players on the circuit, Buchanan bested his eight WSOP cashes in 2010 with nine in 2011, the most of any player.  Buchanan is also the only player to cash in three WSOPE events this year.  Of the seven bracelet events offered in Cannes, Buchanan only played in five of them, final tabling two, and coming in 14th in another.

31 Age of Moritz Kranich, the oldest player at the WSOPE Main Event final table.  Kranich was the only player over the age of 30 at the final table.  The youngest player at the final table was eighth place finisher Max Silver, who is 21 years old.  The entire WSOPE was dominated by younger players.  Six of the seven bracelet winners were under 30 years old, while the oldest bracelet winner was Michael Mizrachi at 30 years old.

73 Number of hands between Max Silver’s elimination from the WSOPE Main Event in eighth place and Jake Cody’s elimination in seventh place.  It was the longest period of the final table without an elimination.  By comparison, Dermot Blain, Brian Roberts, and Mortiz Kranich busted out in fifth, fourth, and third places respectively over the span of just 30 hands.  Despite the long stretch without an elimination, the final table only took around nine hours to play down to a winner and that includes a 65-minute dinner break.

500 Maximum size of Matchbook.com bets in dollars that 2010 WSOPE Main Event winner James Bord offered to pay out on should an American win the WSOPE Main Event.  Now that New Yorker Elio Fox won the tournament, Bord is going to have to shell out some payments.  Fox was one of two Americans at the final table.  The other American, Brian Roberts, finished in fourth place.

2,626 Total number of entries in the seven World Series of Poker Europe bracelet events.

1,851,466 Dollars earned by Chris Moorman between the WSOP and WSOPE.  Moorman trails only two time bracelet winner Brian Rast and Ben Lamb on the 2011 WSOP earnings list.  He also finished third in the WSOP Player of the Year race behind winner Ben Lamb and runner-up Phil Hellmuth.

WSOPE By The Numbers: The Home Stretch

The 2011 World Series of Poker Europe is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the event. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOPE by the numbers:

0 Number of six-figure live scores for Chris Moorman prior to 2011.  The poker pro rakes in over $1 million online pretty much every year, but prior to 2011 he failed to translate his poker success over to a live arena.  This year has been a breakout one for Moorman with three separate six figure scores already, with a fourth potentially coming in the WSOPE Main Event.  Moorman has earned over $1.3 million from live tournaments so far this year.

2 Number of players in the final 16 of the WSOPE Main Event who can overtake Ben Lamb for the top spot in the WSOP Player of the Year race.  Chris Moorman can take the lead if he wins the WSOPE Main Event, while Buchanan will rise to the top with a first or second place finish.

4 Number of matches it took for Team Americas to defeat Team Europe in this year’s Caesars Cup event.  Team Americas took the first match, but Europe rallied in Round 2 to tie the series up.  Then America won Match 3 and Match 4 to lock up the title.  The two teams are now tied 1-1 in overall Caesars Cup history.

6 Number of $1 million prize pools at the 2011 WSOPE.  Of the seven bracelet events, only the €1,620 Six-Handed Pot Limit Omaha event failed to crack the million dollar-mark.

10 Number of countries represented in the starting Day 4 field of the WSOPE Main Event.  The most well-represented group in the final 23 runners is the US with seven runners.  Great Britain had six players advance to Day 4, while the host country of France saw four players make it that far.

16 Number of players who played in all seven WSOPE tournaments.  Fabrice Soulier, Michael McDonald, Eugene Katcahlov, Scott Seiver, Sorel Mizzi, Mark Radoja, Alex Kostritsyn, Roger Hairabedian, Davidi Kitai, Dan Kelly, Sean Getzwiller, Matt Giannetti, Jarred Solomon, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Smith, and Jeff Lisandro played in every single bracelet event they could.

27 Finishing position for Maria Ho in the WSOPE Main Event.  Ho was the highest finishing woman in this year’s field.  Annette Obrestad is the top performing female in WSOPE history thanks to her win in 2007.  Ho is only the fourth woman to ever cash in the WSOPE Main Event.  Obrestad (1st) and Annie Duke (21st) cashed in 2007 and Liz Lieu (22nd) made the money in 2009.

33 Average age of participants in this year’s World Series of Poker Europe.  This is slightly younger than the series American counterpart.  The field in this year’s WSOP Main Event had an average age of 37.

16,128 Earnings in Euros for Barbara Martinez, the WSOPE Ladies Event Champion.  The €550 Ladies No Limit Hold’em Event was not a bracelet tournament, but it did offer a WSOPE Ring for the victor.  Martinez defeated a field of 112 runners to pick up the title and the first WSOPE win for France this year.

206,739,395 Total prize pool in dollars for the 65 bracelet events between WSOP and WSOPE.  This is the first time in the WSOP’s 42 year-history that the series has awarded more than $200 million in prize money.

WSOPE By The Numbers: Mixed Max and the Main Event

The 2011 World Series of Poker Europe is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the event. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOPE by the numbers:

0 Number of WSOPE bracelets for the host country of France.  After picking up an unprecedented four bracelets this summer, the French have struggled in Cannes. Their best showing was a semi-final appearance by Roger Hairabedian in the €10,400 Mixed Max Hold’em Championship.

1 Number of past WSOPE Main Event winners who played in this year’s Main Event.  Reigning champion James Bord was the only one of the four champs to take part, while Annette Obrestad, John Juanda, and Barry Shulman all opted to skip the event.

4 Number of November Niners who played the Main Event.  Matt Giannetti and Phil Collins both busted on Day 1.  Ben Lamb and Sam Holden both advanced to Day 2, but Lamb busted early in the day.

5 Number of players Philippe Boucher knocked out at the final table of the €1,620 Six-Handed Pot Limit Omaha event.  In the span of four hours, Boucher knocked out every single opponent at his table to pick up his first career gold bracelet.

8 Number of cashes for Shawn Buchanan between WSOP and WSOPE this year.  That is more than any other player this year and includes two second place finishes, one in the $10,000 HORSE Championship and the other in this past weekend’s Mixed Max Hold’em Championship.

63 Number of Americans who survived Day 1 of the WSOPE Main Event.  With 328 players advancing to Day 2, that means the Yankees comprised 19% of the starting field for Day 2.  It also means there are still plenty of runners capable of proving James Bord wrong when it comes to his prediction an American will not win the Main Event.  Of the four WSOPE Main Event Champions, two are American, while two are European.

593 Total number of players in this year’s WSOPE Main Event.  That number smashed the previous record turnout for the event, 362 runners. Last year’s field drew 346 players, so the tremendous growth represents a 71% increase from 2010 to 2011.

20,000 Minimum payday in Euros for the 64 players who make the money in the 2011 WSOPE Main Event.

1,400,000 Payday in Euros for the winner of the WSOPE Main Event.  It is the largest payday in WSOPE history and amounts to approximately $1,927,000.

11,909,020 Lifetime tournament earnings for Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi after winning his second bracelet this weekend.  Mizrachi is in the top ten all-time earners on pretty much every iteration of the money list there is.

WSOPE By The Numbers: Big Fields and Big Names in France

The 2011 World Series of Poker Europe is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the event. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOPE by the numbers:

1 Number of Swiss bracelet winners in WSOPE history.  Guillaume Humbert picked up the first-ever bracelet for Switzerland by winning the opening event of WSOPE action.

4 Number of players who have cashed in two WSOPE events so far.  David Benyamine, Shawn Buchanan, Tristan Wade, and Richard Toth are all off to fast starts in Cannes.

5 Number of final tables in events with buy-ins greater than $5,000 for Sam Trickett in 2011. In the past month alone, Trickett final tabled the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event with the chip lead, took seventh in the EPT London High Roller Event, and final tabled the €5,300 Pot Limit Omaha Event at the WSOPE.

23 Finishing position for Andrew Hinrichsen in this year’s WSOP Main Event.  While the Aussie came up short of the November Nine back in July, he did pick up the bracelet in WSOPE Event 2, the largest field event in WSOPE’s five-year history.

43 Average percentage increase in field size for WSOPE events from 2010 to 2011.  The move to France appears to be a popular one with double digit growth in every event.

45 Number of WSOP Player of the Year points Phil Hellmuth earned by finishing seventh in the Six-Handed opening event of the WSOPE.  That cash narrows the gap between him and the current frontrunner, Ben Lamb, but he will need at least one more cash to take the lead in the race.

54 Years in the age difference between Doyle Brunson and Jason Mercier.  The 78 year-old Brunson withdrew from representing Team Americas in the upcoming Caesars Cup after developing a kidney infection.  Team Americas captain Phil Hellmuth selected Mercier as his replacement.  Mercier is the youngest player on the team and brings the average age of the team down from 52 to 41 years old.

240 Approximate number of minutes it took to play out the second round of the €3,200 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Shootout.  With three-handed tables, the action was quite speedy.  With a ten-handed final table, Thursday’s action will inevitably take a little longer than that.

771 Number of runners in the €1,090 No Limit Hold’em event.  The tournament shattered the record for the largest field in WSOPE history.  The previous record was set in 2009 with 608 runners in the £1,000 No Limit Hold’em event won by JP Kelly.

WSOP By The Numbers: The 2011 WSOP In Review

The facts and figures of the World Series of Poker may not be changing day in and day out anymore, but we decided to put together one last installment of WSOP By The Numbers to present the bigger picture of this summer for you. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

1 Number of players who picked up two bracelets this summer. There were plenty of players who got close, but Brian Rast was the only player to continue the 11-year streak of people winning multiple bracelets in the WSOP. He may not be the only one after all though, as bracelet winner and WSOP Player of the Year front runner Ben Lamb has a chance to pick up the most coveted bracelet of all by winning the Main Event.

12 Number of bracelet winners in 2011 whose first WSOP cash ended up being a bracelet win.

38 Number of consecutive years played at the WSOP by Howard “Tahoe” Andrew. That is the longest streak of activity in WSOP history, as Andrew has played all but four years in the 42-years the WSOP has been running.

44 Number of professional poker players who won bracelets this summer. This year saw a higher number of poker pros than usual end up in the winner’s circle, yet most of them were first-time bracelet winners. Of the 44, only John Juanda, Jason Mercier, Matt Matros, and Rep Porter had won bracelets in previous years.

55 Number of ESPN cameras used to capture all of the WSOP Main Event action.

76 Days until WSOP Europe gets underway. This is the first time in the event’s five-year history that its events will count in the WSOP Player of the Year race. Twenty-two of the 57 bracelets awarded so far went to non-Americans and this years extremely diverse final table is a testament to just how international the game of poker has become.

105 Total number of countries represented at the WSOP this year.

3,389 Number of runners in the largest $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event (with one starting day) in history. The tournament generated a prize pool of more than $4.5 million and winner Alex Anter pocketed $777,928 for his $1,500 investment.

416,000 Average number of viewers watching the live WSOP Main Event coverage according to Austin Karp of SportsBusiness Daily and AwfulAnnouncing.com. During the two hours of coverage on ESPN, Karp reported that the numbers were up to 646,000 viewers. Those numbers represent double digit increases over last year’s WSOP coverage on ESPN.

4,119,000 Number of dollars taken in rake by the WSOP on the Main Event–more money than the third place finisher will earn.

WSOP By The Numbers: Main Event Final Table

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both.

The WSOP may be on hold for now, but there are still plenty of numbers to run down, so with that in mind, we present the final table line-up by the numbers:

1 Number of November Niners who did not make an appearance at the Media Day on Wednesday.  Eoghan O’Dea was rumored to be out partying until the wee hours of the morning and was a no-show for the post-play festivities.

3 Number of Americans at the final table.  The three known pros at the table are also the three Yankees.  Ben Lamb, Phil Collins, and Matt Giannetti are the only US players in the mix.  This final table matches the 2007 final table in terms of highest number of non-American players to ever make the top nine.

7 Number of countries represented at this year’s final table.  It is arguably the most diverse line-up in WSOP Main Event history.

21 Age of Anton Makiievskyi.  Born in February of 1990, Makiievskyi is the only player at the final table that has a chance of surpassing Joe Cada as the youngest Main Event winner in history.

25 Number of big blinds short stack Sam Holden will begin final table play with.  Chip leader Martin Staszko will begin play with 80 big blinds.

28 Average age of the 2011 November Niners.  Makiievskyi is the youngest, seven players are in their 20s, Martin Staszko is 35, and Badih Bounahra is the oldest at the table at 49 years of age.

107 Number of days until Main Event play resumes on November 7th.

49,547 Number of dollars won by chip leader Martin Staszko in his biggest cash prior to the Main Event.  He earned nearly $50,000 for his 11th place finish at EPT Deauville in 2010.

500,000 Size of the big blind when play at the final table resumes.  It represents nearly 17 starting stacks of 30,000.

782,115 Dollars each of the final nine is guaranteed to earn in the Main Event.  That money was paid out to them in advance.  The top eight finishers will receive the rest of their paydays after they bust out.

WSOP By The Numbers: Main Event Day 8 Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

2 Number of hours of coverage on ESPN Tuesday night.  The action aired on the flagship network of the ESPN family from 8pm-10pm ET.

2 Peak position on the US Billboard Singles Charts for Phil Collins’ 1981 hit “In The Air Tonight.”  The song experienced a resurgence Tuesday at the final table, as a different Phil Collins made the November Nine.  Every time the younger Collins won a pot of signifigance, his rail would burst out into song, changing the lyrics “Hold on” to “Go Phil.”

5 Number of chip lead changes over the course of ten-handed play.  Eoghan O’Dea began ten-handed action with the chip lead, but Martin Staszko climbed up the counts to eventually take over the top spot.  The two traded the chip lead a couple of times, as their stacks fluctuated within a big blind of one another, but after O’Dea lost a pot to Ben Lamb on the 70th hand of play, Staszko took hold of the chip lead and ended the day with it, putting some distance between himself and O’Dea in the meantime.

20 Percentage of chips in possession of chip leader Martin Staszko.  Since the November Nine concept was introduced, there has always been one player with substantially more chips than the rest of the rest of the field. That is not the case here, as Staszko holds the chip lead, but not by much.  Eoghan O’Dea is second in chips and has 16% of the chips in play.

50 Number of hands of ten-handed play before John Hewitt voluntarily put a chip in the pot.  After five orbits of folding, Hewitt played a total of six hands, doubling up Matt Giannetti and Badih Bounahra, shoving all-in twice, stealing the blinds once, and busting at the hands of Eoghan O’Dea on the last hand of the night.

70 Length in minutes of the unscheduled break in Day 8 action after the field quickly went from 22 to 14 after a little over three hours of play.  There was concern the field would get too close to nine players before the scheduled window on ESPN, so players went on an impromptu break.

81 Number of hands it took to play from ten to the final nine players.

258 Percentage Matt Giannetti’s chip stack increased from the start of ten-handed action to the end of ten handed action.  Giannetti’s time at the unofficial final table was quite productive, as he doubled up twice to go from the short stack to third in chips.  He Badih Bounahra, and Martin Staszko were the three players who saw their chips increase during final table bubble play.

759.05 The minimum number of WSOP Player of the Year points Ben Lamb will finish the year with.  There is still WSOPE and the final table to gothough  and that number could, and likely will, grow higher.

5,602,576 Total dollars earned by the 10th-22nd place finishers in this year’s WSOP Main Event.  Though these players were disappointed to miss out on the final table, they still earned some ample paydays that ranged from $302,005 to $607,882.

Ed. Note: If you would like to see how we kept track of figures at the unofficial final table, you can view the complete hand history of ten-handed play here.

WSOP By The Numbers: Day 7 Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

2 Number of WSOP bracelet winners still alive with 22 players remaining.  Ben Lamb and Sam Barnhart are the only bracelet holders remaining.  Coincidentally, both earned those bracelets just this year.

2 Number of Ukrainian bracelet winners in 2011.  Prior to this year, no Ukrainian player had ever won a WSOP bracelet.  Eugene Katchalov broke the cold spell early in the series, while Oleksii Kovalchuk picked up the second bracelet for the country mid-way through the Series. Kovalchuk is good friends with the man trying to be the third Ukrainian bracelet winner, the current chip leader, Anton Makiievskyi.

6 Approximate number of Bryan Devonshire fans sporting red hats paying homage to the music video for the song “Whip It” by Devo.

11 Number of Americans remaining in the field.  The Day 8 crew is evenly divided between the United States and international players, but it is the non-Americans who dominate the top of the counts.  The top four players to start the day hail from Ukraine, Ireland, Canada, and Russia.  Ben Lamb is the American in the best position to start the day. He is fifth in chips.

15 Number of big blinds short stack Chris Moore will begin Day 8 of play with.

29 Finishing position for the top performing woman in this event, Erika Moutinho. Just minutes after her boyfriend, David Sands, busted in 30th place, Moutinho exited.

105 Number of big blinds chip leader Anton Makiievskyi will begin Day 8 of play with.

1,901,825 Dollars in combined poker earnings of Eoghan O’Dea and his father, Donnacha O’Dea.  The elder O’Dea has already final table the Main Event twice, finishing sixth in 1983 and ninth in 1991.  The younger O’Dea is seeking to make the family’s third Main Event final table appearance. He begins Day 8 second in chips.

20,385,000 Size of the largest pot of the World Series of Poker so far.  The giant hand where Anton Makiievskyi doubled thru Chris Moore is not only the biggest pot of the Main Event, but the biggest pot of the entire WSOP. No event had as many chips in play as were in Makiievskyi’s big double up.

96,460,000 Number of chips in play on Table 3 to start the day.  The exterior table will begin the day with substantially more chips than the other tables and on the ESPN Main Stage.  Table 1 is playing with one more player than Table 3, but still only has 66,780,000.  Table 2 has the least chips of all with 52,550,000.

Table 3 is home to 47% of the total chips in play with a line-up that includes five players with more than 10 million chips to start the day. When thinking about luck in poker, people tend to focus on the cards, but as many pros have pointed out this Main Event, table draw might be the most crucial luck-based component in all of tournament poker.

WSOP By The Numbers: Day 6 Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

6 Number of WSOP bracelet winners still alive in the field. Erick Lindgren, Minh Nguyen, John Esposito, Sam Barnhart, JP Kelly, and Ben Lamb all already possess WSOP gold bracelets.  Lindgren is also one of three WPT winners, along with Steve Brecher and Guillaume Darcourt. Sebastian Ruthenberg is the lone EPT winner still in the field.

7 Position in the chip counts Ryan Lenaghan would possess if he took his current stack to last year’s final table.  Lenaghan leads the field by nearly 3 million chips and his 12,865,000 represents 6% of the total chips in play.

25 Number of players remaining in the field who fail from a country besides the United States, including five Canadians and three Brits

35 Finishing position for Gabe Costner in the 2010 Main Event.  His fiancee, Claudia Crawford, was unable to match that performance this time around.  She went out in 85th place.

45 Approximate number of minutes Erika Moutinho and David Sands spent seated together at the ESPN feature table.  The couple is one of the big stories coming form this year’s Main Event.  In addition to the love story, Moutinho also has the bragging rights of being the last woman left in the field.

60 Number of big blinds in the average stack of 3,613,168.  There are 22 players who will begin the day above average and the remaining 25 are below average.

85 Number of players eliminated over the course of Day 6 of play.  After beginning with 142 runners, the day ended with just 57 players, with eliminations cropping up at a rate of one every 5.6 minutes.

90 Approximate number of people who spent their first break of the day crowded around the TVs in the Amazon Room watching the penalty kick shootout in the Women’s World Cup finals where Team USA squared off against Japan.

130,997 Guaranteed payday in dollars for all the players remaining in the field.

WSOP By The Numbers: Day 5 Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

2 Number of players remaining in the field who can take the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race. Ben Lamb is four eliminations away from retaking the lead, but David Bach has a chance at the honor as well. If Lamb misses out on the final table and Bach wins the whole event, he would talk the lead in the race. O’Brien ended up finishing fifth in the event, collecting over $90,000.

24 Number of countries represented in the remaining field of 142 players.  Eighty-five of those players are Americans.  There are 14 Canadians and eight Brits in the field as well.  Of the players in the top ten, half are American, and three cite Nevada as their home state.  Lars Bonding is the strange one in the bunch, citing Las Vegas as him home city, though he originally hails from Denmark.

30 Average number of players lost per hour over the course of Day 5 action.  Over the course of eight hours of play, the field dwindled from 378 to 142.  Players busted at a rate of one person every two minutes.

59 Number of players who finished the day above the average stack of 1,450,352.  Even this late in the tournament, an average stack still represents 60 big blinds.

121 Finishing position of Breeze Zuckerman in the 2010 WSOP Main Event.  With 142 players remaining and three women still in the field, it appears the ladies will best that finish this time around.

157 Number of starting stacks in chip leader Bach’s stack.  His 4,706,000 chips comprise the dashed hopes and dreams of 2.3% of the field.

792,000 Difference in chip counts between David Sands and Erika Moutinho.  The couple made it through to Day 6 and, while Sands was the short stack at the end of Day 4 action, Moutinho has less chips at the end of Day 5.  She bagged up 868,000, while Sands finished with 1,620,000.

WSOP By The Numbers: Day 4 Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

1 Percentage of the total chips in play in possession of chip leader, Manoj Viswanathan.   He was the only player to finish with more than two million chips, bagging up 2,115,000.

2 Number of big blinds Daniel Negreanu had left in his stack at his low point on Day 4.  He rallied, finishing the day above average with 619,000 (roughly 62 big blinds).

3 Number of 2011 WSOP bracelet winners remaining in the field. Ben Lamb and Tyler Bonkowski picked up bracelets at the Rio this summer, while Sam Barnhart, who finished the day second in chips, picked up his bracelet at the Caesars Palace WSOPC National Championship shortly before the WSOP began.

5 Number of hands of hand-for-hand play on the money bubble.  Those hands took 46 minutes to play out.  After forty minutes, Reza Kashani was eliminated, but he had to sweat the action for six more minutes to confirm no one else busted on the same hand.

13 Approximate number of women who made the money in the WSOP Main Event.  Though women comprised 3.5% of the field, that number means only 1.9% of the players who made the money in the event are female.  With 378 players remaining, there are six women left in the field, including Amanda Musumeci, who finished the day with over a million chips.

29 Consecutive years of WSOP cashes for Berry Johnston.  His streak appears to be over though.  Johnston was one of three past Main Event winners to return for Day 3 action.   Both Phil Hellmuth and Johnston missed the money, while Robert Varkonyi cashed, finishing in 514th place.

378 Number of players returning for Day 3 action.  That number represents only 5% of the total field, but, according to the schedule it will take four days to get from 378 down to the final nine–the same number of days it took to eliminate the other 95% of the field.

30,974 Dollars each player remaining in the Main Event is guaranteed for their efforts.

52,000 Number of chips in the shortest stack in the field.  Sergey Altbregin finished the day with not much more than starting stack.  He will have five big blinds when Day 5 play begins.  There are nine players who finished with less than 100,000 chips, putting them in what many believe to be the critical zone of ten big blinds or less.

1,097,000 Combined chip count of poker couple David Sands and Erika Moutinho.  Both are still alive in the Main Event field and, at the moment, it is Moutinho who is outperforming her more experienced counterpart.  She ended the day with 640,000, while Sands bagged up 457,000.  This is Moutinho’s first-ever $10,000 buy-in event, while Sands has been a regular on the poker circuit for a couple of years.

WSOP By The Numbers: Day 3 Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

1 Number of 2010 November Niners remaining in the field.  Joseph Cheong made it through the day and did so with chips, ending with 410,500.

3 Past Main Event winners still in the field.  Robert Varkonyi, Berry Johnston, and Phil Hellmuth all survived the day, but only Varkonyi finished the day above average with 265,000.  Johnston bagged up 131,000 and Hellmuth his the short stack of the three with 77,000.  Despite being at or below average, all three have more than 18 big blinds in their stack.

12 Percentage of the Main Event field returning for Day 4 action on Friday.  The money bubble is right around the corner and 160 of the 853 Day 3 survivors will be going home with nothing but memories of their 2011 WSOP Main Event run.

13 Number of levels it took for a player to run their stack from 30,000 to more than a million. Patrick Poirier was the first player to hit seven figures, Brian Park crossed the million-mark briefly, and Daryl Jace ended with more than a million as well. Last year, no one made it to a million chips until Day 4 of play.

16 Number of minutes late the live broadcast on ESPN2 was delayed following the dinner break thanks to a WNBA game running late on the network. The broadcast was supposed to re-start at 8:00 pm PT but didn’t get back on air until 8:16 pm PT due to the San Antonio Stars and Seattle Storm going longer than originally planned.

38 Number of hours of live coverage of the 2011 WSOP Main Event on ESPN’s family of networks.

54 Ranking in the end of Day 3 chip counts for Amanda Musumeci.  She is the top performing female in the Main Event so far, sitting on a well above average 528,500.

162 Number of participants in the $10,000 Bellagio Cup Main Event.  Registration is open until 5pm on Friday for the tournament, which had been part of the World Poker Tour’s televised schedule from 2007-2010.  This year there is no television coverage and no WPT affiliation for the event and attendance is down by half compared to last year’s field of 353 runners.

2,239,000 Approximate number of chips on Table Orange 322 midway through Level 12 of play. The table was stacked with a number of the biggest stacks in the field and include four players over 400,000. The line-up at the table included Billy Paradiso, Don Nguyen, Christopher Bonita, David Oppenheim and Darryl Jace. On their table alone, they were in possession of a little more than 1% of the total chips in play.

Bonita and Jace ended the day with most of those chips. After busting Paradiso midway through the day and taking down even more pots after that, Jace picked up over half of those chips to end the day with over 1.2 million. Bonita was in possession of most of the rest, bagging up 859,000 and finishing as the seventh biggest stack in the room.

There were several big stacks seated at the same table over the course of Day 3 including Orange 322, Blair Hinkle and Massimiliano Martinez, Anton Ionel and Aleksandr Mozhnyakov.

Day 4 will see some similar situations.  Chip leader Patrick Poirier and big stack Guillaume Darcourt will begin play on the same table and more big stacks will inevitably end up together as play progresses and tables break.

WSOP By The Numbers: Day 2B Rundown

The 2011 World Series of Poker is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why each day BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the news of the day. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. Here is the WSOP by the numbers:

0 Number of WSOP Main Event runners playing on Wednesday.  In order to make sure there is a level playing field and all the players returning for Day 3 Thursday get at least one day off from the action, play will pause for a day.  That is not to say there won’t be any action at the Rio though.  The WSOP Media Event is set to get underway at 4pm PT.

0 Number of 2011 BLUFF Player of the Year Points Day 3 chip leader chip leader Ben Lamb had prior to the start of the WSOP.  He is now ranked 11th in the race.

2 Number of 2010 November Niners alive in the 2011 WSOP Main Event headed into Day 3. Day 2 was not kind to last year’s final table. Once the carnage ended, only John Racener and Joseph Cheong were alive and returning to Day 3. The good news is both will begin Day 3 action above average. Racener will start with 182,900 chips, while Cheong has slightly more than that with 229,100.

3 Number of tables left in the Pavilion Room with Day 2B play concluded.  It looked as though the room would empty before the day was over, but they just missed the mark with three tables left from the 165 that began the day in there.

6 Number of big blinds Erick Lindgren began Day 2B of play with.  After a rough Day 1, Lindgren had an amazing Day 2B, running his stack up to 170,300 and will begin Day 3 above average with 106 big blinds in his arsenal.

20 Dollars in food vouchers awarded to the players of Table 261 as compensation for dealing with a lot of controversy and drama when a dealer discovered their deck was missing eight cards. After an hour or so of confusion and a review of the tapes, security determined that, thankfully, no hands were dealt with the deck missing cards, but the group still earned a fancier dinner for their trouble.

37 Number of minutes it took to race off the green 25 chips at the end of Level 7 action. Terrence Chan, who is in the field today, timed the length of the color up and it ended up being almost twice as long as a standard break.

138 Finishing position Ben Lamb needs in the Main Event in order to retake the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race. He also needs current frontrunner, Phil Hellmuth, to finish outside the money.

110,370 Size of the average stack when the 1,866 Day 3 runners return to the tables on Day 3.  There are 768 players above that mark, while the remaining 1,098 will begin the day below the average stack.  If you were to begin Day 3 with average stack, you would have 70 big blinds.
