A.M. SCRAMBLE: The Beat Does Not Go On, November Nine Reunion, Twitter Wants Peace
- Lance Bradley | February 9, 2011
It’s Hump Day and we’re bringing the A.M. Scramble to you with some funny, some insight and unfortunately some sad news from the poker world.
Award Winning The Poker Beat Records Last Show
Just two weeks ago PokerRoad.com’s The Poker Beat grabbed it’s second consecutive BLUFF Reader’s Choice Award and on Tuesday they decided to quit while they’re ahead. The host, Scott Huff, announced at the beginning of the show that due largely to his hectic schedule Wednesday’s show would be their last. Show regulars BJ Nemeth, Gary Wise, Dan Michalski and BLUFF Managing Editor Jessica Welman recorded a two-hour show finale. You can listen to the final episode here. We’re not sure where you can send flowers though.
Somebody Not in The November Nine Wins November Nine Reunion Tournament
Foxwoods Casino’s November Nine Reunion Tournament played down to a winner Tuesday and it wasn’t Jonathan Duhamel, John Racener, Joseph Cheong, Michael Mizrachi, Filippo Candio, Soi Nguyen, Jason Senti, Matt Jarvis or John Dolan who came out the winner. How’s that possible? Well, joining the November Nine in the November Nine Reunion Tournament were various qualifiers from Foxwoods Casino as well as Foxwoods’s own Bernard Lee. The winner was Ben Hopkins and he earned $5,000. Jarvis finished second.
Final Table Results
- Ben Hopkins
- Matt Jarvis
- Bill Raynor
- Anthony Palladino
- Jonathan Duhamel
- Bernard Lee
- Michael Mizrachi
- Joseph Washington
- Rick Grygeil
Michael Mizrachi apparently wasn’t too disappointed with his seventh place finish as he’s also the chip leader after Day 1 of the $300 Mega Stack.
Online Poker Company Gets Creative With TV Spot and Fails Miserably At Being Funny
Look, we get it. Smaller online poker rooms have to take some risks to get the attention of the poker world. Cool Hand Poker put out a TV ad a little more than two years ago and it’s only now getting some attention. InfiniteEdgeGaming.com just posted their thoughts on it and called the “Worst Ever”. We’re going to go ahead and agree. Here it is, judge for yourselves.
GSN’s Hiring of Norm MacDonald isn’t Getting Rave Reviews
When GSN sent out a press release earlier this week announcing that Gabe Kaplan was being replaced by Norm MacDonald as the play-by-play guy on High Stakes Poker it turned some heads. Kaplan is considered by most to be the gold standard for poker commentators and to put a professional comedian in his place seems a bit odd. ESPN.com’s Andrew Feldman has a great breakdown of the decision and kind of takes GSN to task for their decision.
It Appears That Twitter Has a Funny Bone or a Desire for Peace
Early Monday morning Terrence Chan posted a picture on his Facebook account with the caption: “I got this a long time ago, but never got around to posting it. Twitter has a great sense of humour.”. Here’s the photo:
