Tournament Tracker: Buchanan’s Big Win and More PCA Results
- Jessica Welman | January 20, 2012
The Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas may be free of poker players until 2013, but the results from the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure side events keep rolling in. In this edition of Tournament Tracker, we have even more big names hitting big paydays from PCA, plus the first results from the next big stop on the poker calendar, the Aussie Millions.
Player’s looking to recoup some of their losses at PCA always look forward to the $10,000 Six-Handed Turbo No Limit Hold’em event. Last year, Alex Kostritsyn and Eugene Katchalov got heads up in this event. This year, Katchalov once again posted a top ten finish, but his seventh place showing left him on the outside looking in come final table time.
Shawn Buchanan was the top finisher in the event, which drew 87 runners. Last year’s NAPT PCA Bounty Shootout Champ Andrew Chen took second, and Stefan Huber placed third in what appears to be a three-way deal that gave Buchanan just over $200,000, awarded just over $190,000 to Chen, and gave Huber $188,000.
Chen also took fourth in the $2,000 buy-in Turbo No Limit Hold’em side event for an additional $32,510. Joseph McKeehan was the top finisher in that event, besting a final table that included Chen, Team PokerStars Pro Pat Pezzin, and Matt Kay to pick up the win and a $130,000 payday.
The PCA also offered side event action at the $5,000 buy-in level for a wide array of events, including a Heads-Up tournament, an 8-Game event, and a Turbo PLO tournament. Adam Coviensky and Hans Winzeler made a deal worth around $90,000 each in the PLO event, while Scott Seiver did an even chop with Thomas Gabriel in the final round of the Heads-Up tournament. Both Seiver and Gabriel took home $78,210.
Mike Gorodinsky claimed an outright win in the 8-Game event after besting Jon Turner heads-up. Gorodinsky pocketed over $82,000 and continued a very impressive streak. In 2009, Gorodinsky won this same event for just over $101,000. Last year, he finished runner-up to none other than Buchanan in the tournament, and this year marks his third consecutive top two showing. With another $82,000 in his pocket after this year, Gorodinsky’s winnings in this event are now over the $220,000 mark.
Now that the PCA is all wrapped up, the side event action at the Crown Casino in Melbourne is really starting to get going. Brendon Rubie got a leg up on the crowds though. The Aussie pro opted to stay home rather than head to PCA and was one of 946 players to take part in the AUD$1,100 opening event of this year’s Aussie Millions. Rubie took home a nice payday of over AUD$200,0000 by defeating the large field.
The big buy-in Aussie Millions events, including the much trumpeted $100,000 and $250,000 events are right around the corner. We’ll have all the notable names faring well in Melbourne as well as results from the Million Dollar Heater at the Beau Rivage and LA Poker Classic action in our next Tournament Tracker update.
