Tournament Tracker: Cada, Duhamel Find PCA Side Event Success

Cada posted his biggest win since the WSOP Main Event

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event and Super High Roller may be drawing the big headlines, but the long list of side events at the Atlantis are producing some huge paydays, especially for two WSOP Main Event Champions.

2009 Main Event winner Joe Cada picked up the biggest score of his career outside of the Main Event by winning the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em side event, a tournament that drew a gigantic field of 348 players and awarded Cada $175,550 for first place.  He was joined at the final table by the likes of Mike Telker, who took second place, fourth place finisher Shannon Shorr, and sixth place finisher JC Alvarado.

Cada was not the only Main Event winner to spend some time in the winner’s circle either. The 2010 WSOP Champ Jonathan Duhamel continued his PCA hot streak by following up his fourth place finish in the $100,000 Super High Roller with a win in the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em side event.  Duhamel picked up an additional $239,830 to go along with the $313,600 he won in the $100,000 event.  Throw in a final table appearance in the $5,000 Turbo event and Duhamel’s 2012 PCA bounty is currently at $571,420.

Duhamel’s $5,000 final table might have been just as tough as the Super High Roller final eight, as the French Canadian was joined by the likes of Jason Mercier, WSOP bracelet winner Keven Stammen, Owen Crowe, and reigning WSOP Main Event Champ Pius Heinz, who took fifth.  Since winning the Main Event a little over a year ago, Duhamel has picked up an additional $1.1 million in earnings, the most of a Main Event winner since Joe Hachem in 2005.

Other notables to pick up wins in the side events include Noah Schwartz, who defeated Chino Rheem, Rob Mizrachi, Erik Cajelais and others to take down the $5,000 Turbo PLO event.   Schwartz earned $97,780 for the win, while the $5,000 Turbo No Limit Hold’em winner Kunimaro Kojo pocketed $92,540.

There are still plenty of side event results rolling in, so be sure to tune in to next week’s tournament tracker to see who won the $5,000 8-Game Championship, the $2,000 Turbo No Limit tournament, and all the other big buy-in side events from the 2012 PCA.  Until then, here are the final table results from the aforementioned tournaments:
