Tournament Tracker: MacPhee, De Meulder, & Mancuso Victorious

The big turnout out for the European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event didn’t just mean a seven-figure payday for Vadzim Kursevich. It also meant a host of huge side events, including one of the biggest EPT High Roller Tournaments of the season. We’ve got all the major side event action, plus results from the Main Event of the Borgata Winter Poker Open in this edition of Tournament Tracker:
There was plenty of big action in Deauville, but the biggest action outside of the EPT Main Event this week was actually in Atlantic City, where more than 730 players turned up for the $3,500 Borgata Winter Poker Open Main Event. The re-entry tournament met its $2 million guarantee with room to spare, generating a prize pool of $2,339,534. The biggest chunk of that prize pool went to Josh Mancuso, who defeated a tough final table that included Jeff Papola (2nd), Christian Iacobellis (5th), and Brock Parker (7th) to earn a more than $540,000 payday.
Eric Sfez didn’t quite bank half a million bucks in France, but his win in the EPT Deauville High Roller event did net him €242,000. Sfez prevailed over a field of 72 runners at a final table stacked with some notable European pros like runner-up Ruben Visser, David Sonelin, and cashing machine Mihhail Lakhitov.
Kevin MacPhee and Matthias de Meulder also grabbed victories in Deauville. MacPhee defeated fellow American Shaun Deeb heads-up in the €5,000 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em side event, while de Meulder came out on top of the €1,500 No Limit Hold’em side event, earning €136,000 for his effort. While Sam Chartier didn’t win any EPT side events, the Canadian did have a solid trip, finishing sixth in the event de Meulder won and taking fourth in the High Roller event for combined earnings of almost €90,000.
While the payday is a meager one compared to his PCA bounty, Jonathan Duhamel added another final table to his 2012 results. Duhamel took eighth in the €2,000 No Limit Hold’em side event, which should give him enough points to retake the BLUFF Player of the Year lead from Oliver Speidel.
Next week, we’ll have results from the side events at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open at the Seminole Hard Rock, some action from the LA Poker Classic, and other results from around the tournament circuit. Until then, here are the complete final table results from the aforementioned events, plus some other side event action from EPT Deauville:
