WCOOP: Jamie “Xaston” Kaplan Wins Turbo Rebuy and $213K
- Jessica Welman | September 7, 2010
For the second day in a row, the WCOOP has exceeded all expectations, producing massive prize pools and six-figure scores. The trio of tournaments on the schedule featured $1.1 million dollars in guaranteed prize pools, but in the end, they managed to generate almost twice that, thanks to a massive turnout in the $200 Turbo rebuy tournament, Event 6.
The evening event was the last to begin and the first to end and produced a surprisingly large prize pool of $1.3 million thanks to nearly 4,000 rebuys and almost 1,000 add-ons. The winner of that event was Jamie “Xaston” Kaplan, who earned over $213,000 for his efforts. Surprisingly, this is not Kaplan’s biggest WCOOP score. He made the final table of last year’s WCOOP Main Event and earned over $475,000 for his fifth place finish. Kaplan defeated another player with some big scores to his credit, FTOPS 2-day Event winner Raj “BadCardsAA” Vorha, who picked up $157,000 for second place.
It was a tour de force performance for ProXimaVez in Event 4, a $320 Pot Limit Omaha event. He eliminated all of his opponents at the final table en route to a bracelet win and an $86,640 prize.
The other event of the day was a $320 No Limit Hold’em Shootout event that drew a crowd of 1,296 players. The top 36 was a veritable who’s who of the online poker world, but most of the big names came up one round short of the final table. In the end, it was J0hnny_Dr@m@ who claimed the win after defeating four short-handed tables over the course of the tournament.
Tuesday’s WCOOP action will feature some unique games for the non-Hold’em players with a Pot Limit Five Card Draw event and a Triple Stud tournament (a new mixed game on PokerStars that includes, Stud, Stud Hi-Lo and Razz). There will be also be a $1,050 buy-in No Limit Hold’em 2-day tournament in place of the site’s regular Super Tuesday event.
