The World Series of Poker has launched a new era of online poker. It’s not the long rumored site that Harrah’s officials have been working on since last year - it’s a freeplay Facebook application. The WSOP looks to challenge Zynga, the current leader in Facebook games, with a WSOP branded version Poker Palace by Playdom games.

The game has five and ten-handed ring games and Sit & Go tournaments. Players begin with 6,000 chips in their account and buy into a ring game for as little as 400 and up to 8,000,000. Tournament format buy-ins start at 2,000 and go up to 100,000.

There’s also 75 achievements players can unlock and earn as players play. There is a leaderboard, both for all users and a separate one for  players’ friend lists. Players can even choose which friends they want to invite to play on the application.
