WPT: Andrea Dato Gets Another Shot at a Venice Title
- Jessica Welman | February 9, 2012
Back in December, Andrea Dato had his first real shot at a World Poker Tour title at the WPT Venice event. He came up short, finishing in fourth place. Now Dato has a shot at redemption, as he will begin the final table of the WPT Venice Grand Prix as the chip leader.
Day 4 action in Venice was brief as the final nine returned to trim the field to the six players that comprise the televised final table. Another WPT final tablist, Simon Ravnsbaek of Season IX’s WPT Vienna event, began the day as chip leader, but it was Dato who ended the action on top.
Dato started off strong by eliminating Massimo Mosele in ninth place. It ended strong for Dato as well, as he eliminated the lone American left in the field, Jason Wheeler, in seventh place when his pocket jacks outflipped Wheeler’s A
Q
. Wheeler had a rough day on the felt, slowly bleeding chips up until his seventh place elimination. With Wheeler’s exit, the final table was set and the day was done.
Dato’s duel KOs give him 1,591,000 chips to work with at the final table, which amounts to nearly 100 big blinds and a big lead over the rest of the table. His next closest competitor is Ravnsbaek, who ended the day with 922,000. Rinat Bogdanov, who knocked out Jeremie Sochet in eighth place, is right on Ravnsbaek’s heels with 907,000.
Alessandro Longobardi, Andrea Carini, and Gianluca Trebbi will all begin the final table with beow average stacks. Both Carini and Trebbi will begin play on Friday with approximately 20 big blinds each.
The final table will be live streamed on WPT.com with hole cards on a slight delay and will feature commentary from Jesse May. Action is set to get underway at 2pm CET with blinds at 8,000/16,000 ante 2,000.
Here are the chip counts and seat assignments for Friday’s final table:
Seat 1: Andrea Dato – 1,591,000
Seat 2: Simon Ravnsbaek – 922,000
Seat 3: Andrea Carini – 347,000
Seat 4: Rinat Bogdanov – 907,000
Seat 5: Gianluca Trebbi – 343,000
Seat 6: Alessandro Longobardi – 558,000
