WPT Season X Debuts on FSN February 12th
- Jessica Welman | January 25, 2012
The television debut of the tenth season of the World Poker Tour is just a couple of weeks away. Wednesday the organization announced a premiere date of February 12th. The show will be returning to its usual spot on FSN Sundays at 8pm and 11pm.
The time slot may remain the same, but there are plenty of differences in store this season, including more episodes. After Season IX saw a big ratings bump, the WPT is expanding its broadcast schedule to 37 episodes, compared to 26 last year. The expansion means each stop will comprise three episodes, with popular segments like “Five Questions”, “Ones To Watch”, and the Raw Deal with Tony Dunst all returning. There will also be additional footage from the days leading up to the final table, as well as more behind the scenes action.
New segments to expect in Season X include a WPT Champion’s Club piece that looks back on classic WPT final table moments of the past decade. There will also be an On The Road segment produced by veteran reality TV producer Joey Carson, which focuses on lives of the WPT’s on-air team, which will once again include Dunst, the Royal Flush Girls, Kimberly Lansing, Vince Van Patten, and Mike Sexton. Later in the season, Marienela Pereyra will step into Lansing’s role after Lansing goes on maternity leave.
If you do the math, twelve events with three episodes of coverage adds up to 36 not 37. The February 12th premiere will feature some highlights of Season IX’s memorable action, and also preview some of the big stories and moments viewers can expect in Season X.
“WPT Season IX redefined poker programming and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Season X will see more new elements that we expect the audience will love and will further enhance the timeless appeal of our show,” said Steve Heller, WPT CEO. “World Poker Tour’s sustainability is not only a testament to continual innovation, but also to co-hosts Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten, who have been the best in the business for an incredible ten years.”
The next stop for the WPT is Venice, which will be filmed for American broadcast. Venice and the Grand Prix de Paris are the only European stops that are part of the FSN broadcast schedule. That event kicks off February 6th and runs through February 10th.
