WSOP Academy to Host Four Events During WSOP
- Jason Kirk | April 21, 2009
WSOP Academy announced Monday that players will have four different events to choose from this summer in Las Vegas, each focusing on a different aspect of the game. Whether a student of the game is looking to hone cash game skills or improve tournament results, the new schedule has something to offer for players of all skill levels.
Three of the courses - the Cash Game Academy, Ladies Only Academy, and Tournament Academy - will last two days, while the Main Event Primer will last for three days. As is always the case with the WSOP Academy, the instructors at each of the four summer events come from the top echelons of poker. Phil Hellmuth, the all-time leader with 11 World Series of Poker bracelets, heads up a cast of instructors that includes Greg Raymer, Phil Gordon, Annie Duke, Alex Outhred, Mark Gregorich, Bernard Lee, and Mark Seif.
Also on hand to help players decode tells at the table will be Joe Navarro, the former FBI counterterrorism and counterintelligence expert turned poker instructor and BLUFF contributor. Navarro’s seminar will focus on teaching players how to detect and interpret tells, possibly giving players an edge over their less-experienced opponents.
After learning in a hands-on environment from world class instructors, all students will get the chance to play in a private tournament with a seat in the WSOP Academy Tournament of Champions up for grabs. The TOC’s winner, in turn, will get a seat in the WSOP Main Event.
Even with the expanded schedule, this summer’s WSOP Academy events are expected to sell out. Pre-registration is available at the WSOP Academy website (www.wsopacademy) for all four courses:
