Lisa Hamilton is the latest winner of a World Series of Poker gold bracelet. Hamilton won the $1,000 Ladies No Limit Hold ‘em World Championship (Event 17) after just three and a half hours of play. Along with the bracelet Hamilton will take home $195, 390, not bad for someone who does not even play in tournaments.

“I only played because my friend wanted me to play with her,” Hamilton said. “I told her ‘I’m not playing in this stupid event.’ I only signed up at the last minute. I don’t play in tournaments. I’m play cash games.”

Hamilton beat out second place finisher, Lori Bender when her Q 8 proved to be the better cards. After a flop of J 3 8 Bender checked holding 8 9, Hamilton raised and Bender called.  After the turn showed the 4 Bender checked once again and Hamilton raised once again. Bender instantly pushed all-in, Hamilton thought a moment and then made the call. The river turned over the A sending Bender away with $120, 575.

Lisa Santy was eliminated in ninth place after about 30 minutes of play when she  moved all in for 171,000 after Hamilton raised to 40,000. Kim Rios called from the small blind and Hamilton folded. Santy tabled A Q and Rios showed A A. Santy pleaded for a little luck from the poker gods and it looked as though they may have answered when the flop came J Q 9. There was a possibillty for a chop when the 5 hit on the turn and Santy begged “spade me baby.”  There was no spade and no Queen on the river and Santy walked away with $15,973.

15 minutes later Dawn Thomas  was sent to the rail in eighth place without a bracelet but $18,742 richer. Thomas shoved all-in after Bender raised to 50,000. Thomas laid down pocket tens and Bender turned over pocket Kings. the board ran out A 7 4 9 5 giving Bender the winning hand.

About 30 minutes after Thomas left, Lisa Parsons was sent packing in seventh place by perhaps the worst beat of the night. Parsons moved all her chips to the middle after a flop of 3 9 7, holding 3 3. Rios called and showed J 9. When the 7 hit on the turn Parson’s buddies cheeared from the rail and exchanged hi-fives. Rios’ fans were screaming for a nine and their prayers were answered the 9 fell on the river. The crowd erupted in a mix of cheers and boos. A stunned Parsons made her way to the rail to collect $22,880.

Rios  left the Ladies table in sixth with $29,121 when she pushed all-in on a flop of K 8 4. Rios held K J and was called by Hamilton who held 4 4. The turn laid down the 5 and the river ended Rios’ night when it landed the 2.

After playing patiently most of the game Kimberly Cunningham was eliminated in fifth when she pushed her remaining 51,000 into the middle holding 6 6. Angel Pedroza made the call from the big blind and tabled [10c] 7. The board ran out 9 [10h] K 3 Kd] giving Pedroza the top two pair and sending Cunningham home with $38,719.

Pedroza was elimintated in fourth after her short stack was cut in half by the big blind.  Mari Lou Morelli pushed all-in and Pedroza commited the rest of her chips to the middle. Morelli turned over A [10c] and Pedroza showed 5 3. The flop came 3 A 2 giving Morelli top pair but Pedroza the straight draw. The turn was the 7 leaving Pedroza hoping for any three, four or five. The river gave Morelli a set with the A and sent Pedroza packing with $53,940.

After being railed by gal pals singing “Proud Mary” after every pot she won  Morelli was sent to join her choir in third place when, for the second time in the night, a nine on the river ended her bid for a bracelet.  After seeing a flop of 8 K [10h] Morelli moved her remaing 60,000 to the middle holding Q [10s]. Bender made the call holding 9 8. The turn of 7 looked promising for Morelli but the 9 on the river gave Bender two pair. Morelli joined her friends to go collect her winnings of $78, 132.
