WSOP: Doyle Brunson Looking for Bracelet Number 11
- Diana Cox | June 20, 2009

Day 2 of the $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud H/L - 8 began with a tough field that included five former Main Event winners. Chris Ferguson, Scotty Nguyen, Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Greg Raymer were among the 110 of 164 players to return after Day 1.
Heading into Day 3 Abe Mosseri is in the lead with a stack of 950,000. This will be his second World Series of Poker cash and first final table. His last cash in a WSOP event was in 2004 in the $10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold ‘em (Event 33).
One table was particularly stacked early on in the day with Nguyen, Brunson, Nick Shulman, John Juanda, Chip Jett and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss. A tough table to be at even for the seasoned pros. Between them there are two Main Event Champions, 20 WSOP bracelets, 133 WSOP cashes and just shy of $12 million in circuit and WSOP winnings.
This will be the first final table for Brunson since the 2007 WSOP when he finished sixth in the $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Omaha (Event 50). If he is able to take down the entire field he will tie Hellmuth’s record for most WSOP bracelets. Doyle won his tenth bracelet at the 2005 WSOP in the $5,000 No Limit Hold ‘em Shorthanded (Event 31).
Father and son Doyle and Todd Brunson were deep in the same tournament once again this Series, having already ended up at the same table twice before. Doyle mentioned to the floor staff earlier in the day as tables were beginning to break and be redrawn that he did not want to end up at a table with his son yet again.
Doyle discussed with his tablemates the issues of that could arise from family members playing each other. Doyle, known for his honesty and integrity, let everyone know that he and his family members would never soft play each other, but does not like the idea of playing against his son nonetheless.
Inevitabley, for the third time in as many weeks, two generations of Brunson’s were face to face across the felt. Todd was eliminated when he moved all-in early on in a pot with his father and Yan Chen. Chen bet out Doyle on a later street and rounded off the wheel on sixth street. Todd was drawing dead and subsequently eliminated.
It was record holder versus record holder when the youngest player ever to win a World Poker Tour event, Shulman, busted the man with the most bracelets, Hellmuth. Hellmuth was all-in with (7

Other eliminations during Day 2 include Huck Seed, Bill Chen and Dario Minieri.
The remaining 12 players will return Saturday at 1 p.m. to play down to a final table.
