We want your bracelet

Cashing for the first time in a World Series of Poker event is usually the first goal. The next goal is to reach a final table, followed by winning the first bracelet. Harrison Wilder accomplished all three in one fell swoop, picking up his first cash, first final table, and first bracelet all at the same time in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event.

Fifteen of the original 675 entrants returned on Sunday for Day 3. The first six eliminations came fast as Paul Schumer, Jeff Williams, Bryan Pimlott, Chris Overgar, and defending champion Matt Matros all exited in the first hour and a half. Tim Chauser followed that group in tenth place shortly after the players got settled on the secondary feature table for the unofficial final table.

Two-time bracelet winner Scott Clements came into the final table near the top of the leader board along with William Davis and Sean Nguyen. Clements was unable to maintain that stack, eventually dropping to the bottom. When he got involved in a hand against Davis with A3 on a QJ9 flop, the rest of his chips were moved to the middle. Davis called with QQ for the flopped top set. The K on the turn delivered Clements a chance when he picked up a straight draw, but when the 7 came on the river, Clements’ shot at a third bracelet ended.

Following Clements to the payout room was Mitch Schock, whoseflopped king high straight was not good enough to beat out Harrison Wilder‘s ace-high straight. Craig Laben became the seventh place finisher when his QJ failed to improve against John Myung’s AJ.

Sean Nguyen was eliminated shortly after returning from dinner break at the hands of Matthew Elsby, who became the first player to 1 million in chips. Those 1 million in chips were not enough to keep Elsby from becoming the next one out though. He went on a bad run, doubling up Myung and then losing a big pot to Wilder. Thomas Jamieson finished Elsby off after both players caught a pair of aces on a J73A board. Jamieson’s AT had Elsby’s A8 outkicked, leaving Elsby looking for the board to pair or one of the remaining eights. When the river Q hit the felt, so did Elsby’s chance at the bracelet.

William Davis, a retired Air Force Pilot, collected $64,625 fpr fourth place when his pocket fours were not good enough to beat Wilder’s J7 on a KJT22 board.

After finishing third in the 2005 $2,000 Limit Hold’em event, Myung was looking to vindicate himself and get his first bracelet. It was just not his day and he eventually took a stand with A3 against Wilder’s Q9 on a Q876 board. When a river ace did not come, Myung was eliminated in third place for $89,840, just over $6,000 more than he received for the same finish in 2005.

Heads-up play began with two players that that have not only reached their first WSOP final table but also their first ever career cash. Wilder had just over a 2-1 lead over Jamieson when they began their duel. That lead was too much for Jamieson who moved all-in with KT only to find himself behind Wilder’s A2. The flop and turn failed to improve each players’ hands and the 2 on the river gave Wilder an unneeded pair and the bracelet.

Here are the final table payouts for $1,500 Limit Hold’em:
