Three days ago Jeff Lisandro made it to the final table of the $10,000 World Championship Seven-card Stud event at the World Series of Poker. He finished ninth.

Thursday, however, the 2007 Stud bracelet winner got a another chance at his second Stud bracelet in Event #16 ($1,500 Seven-card Stud).

“I just have to keep doing what I’m doing,” Lisandro said at the end of Day 1. “Stud is a game of percentages, I just have to keep playing the percentages.”

Lisandro had the chip lead after seven levels of play which began Saturday and ran into Sunday morning, but finished in second in the standings with 40,700 in chips. David Levi takes the lead into Day 2 of play with 49,600. Jason Mercier, Thor Hansen and John Juanda round off the top five, each with at least 30,400 in chips, almost twice the 15,838 average.

Play will resume Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Amazon Room of the Rio Hotel until a final table of eight or until 3 a.m. the following morning. Follow live here.

Of the 359 who registered for the event, 102 will continue playing Sunday afternoon, including Eli Elezra, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi and Nick Frangos. Ted Forrest, Andy Bloch and David Singer, however, busted early in the tournament.

Toward the end of the night, Lisandro added to his stack when he made four jacks. With a board of J 4 T, Lisandro called down his opponent on each street until he paired his door card with the J. With the open pair, Lisandro led out on sixth and seventh streets and showed J J 6 when his opponent called.

“The mistake people make is they keep laying down good hands,” Lisandro said. “I’m trying to go to the river as opposed to make good laydowns.”
