WSOP: Tom “durrr” Dwan Makes First Final Table

The 21-year-old online poker sensation known as “durrr” has made his first World Series of Poker final table in Event #8 ($10,000 World Championship Mixed Event). Tom Dwan will start the day third in chips with 642,000. He trails only Matt Glantz (1,150,000) and another online poker pro James “mig dot com” Mackey (742,000).

The mixed event plays a total of eight games; Hold’em, Omaha, Razz, Seven-card Stud, Eight or Better, No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and Triple Draw Deuce-to-Seven. Dwan feels that his chances to win a bracelet Friday are pretty good.

“There’s a lot of pretty good players at the final table. Obviously I feel like I have a pretty big edge on every one except Sammy (Farha) and No Limit and PLO and Jeff (Madsen) in the No Limit. But overall I like my chances. Hopefully I’ll win. I’d say I’m like 20%, I have 19% of the chips, so we’ll round it up.”

Following the trend set by earlier events, this final table is not without an abundance of star power. Farha (374,000) and Madsen (149,000) are joined by Michael DeMichele (434,000), Anthony Rivera (274,000) and a short-stacked Eli Elezra (76,000).

Dwan nearly failed to make the final table after losing a huge pot to Mackey during the No Limit Hold’em rotation.

”I was down to like 125,000 or 130,000. I got extremely lucky to get back up so fast, but that’s poker.”

“I’ll be disappointed with the Series if I don’t win a bracelet or go really deep in the main event. But a lot of times you’re slightly disappointed in poker and I won’t really mind much, then I’ll go on vacation and I’ll be happy again.”

While Dwan might sound cocky to some he doesn’t want anybody to mistake him for being that guy.

“I would be very slightly disappointed. Like, you go to a movie and there’s not enough popcorn left, something like that,” said Dwan. “Not like you show up it’s sold out and you’re standing in the back - not that disappointed.”

Even if he doesn’t come home with a bracelet Friday, Dwan thinks he still has a few spots where he’ll be ahead of the field.

“I think there are a few tourneys that I’m in fairly good shape in based on the games being played and the size of the field. This, Deuce-to-Seven Single Draw, games that I’m not necessarily great at, but better than the field and they’re small fields. And then obviously some of the smaller field PLO’s, like the $10,000 PLO event.”
