WSOPC: Freddy Deeb Wins First-Ever LA Championship

This is Deeb's first WSOPC cash

The World Series of Poker Circuit kicked off a new year at a new location as the tour spent twelve days in the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles.  Despite not being a property of Caesars Entertainment, the WSOPC’s parent company, the Bike still played host to 12 ring events, including the $1,600 buy-in Main Event, which drew an impressive 549 runners and generated a nearly-$800,000 prize pool.

If the winner of the event is any indication, you can probably tell that many of poker’s West Coast big names turned up for the tournament, including the stop’s winner, Freddy Deebb.  While other notables like Allen Cunningham, Mandy Baker, Jeff Madsen, Phil Hellmuth, Miami John Cernuto, Bryan Devonshire, Ryan Welch, and Tuan Le failed to make the money, Deeb didn’t even enter the competition until Day 2, but managed to reach the winner’s circle.

The top 54 finishers in the re-entry event made the money and Thor Hansen (46th), Raymond Dolan (41st), Steve Brecher (26th), Alec Torelli (23rd), Dylan Hortin (21st), and David Misicikowski (11th) were some of the notables to make the money.

The final table included a woman, Julie Franks, who finished in eighth place, poker pro Brandon Crawford, who took sixth, and Deeb, who went from big stack to short stack and everywhere in between en route to a victory worth $171,810.  After ten hours of final table action, Deeb defeated Alex Masek heads-up to take the ring.  Deeb, who is one of the most decorated players in poker, has surprisingly never cashed in a WSOPC event before.  Masek, on the other hand, has a long list of WSOPC titles and was seeking a record-tying fifth ring in this event.

The WSOPC is already up and running at its next stop, the Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma.  The Main Event of that series is set to run from January 21st to 23rd. Here are the final table results from the $1,600 WSOPC Bicycle Casino Main Event:

1st: Freddy Deeb – $171,810
2nd: Alex Masek – $106,185
3rd: Leroy Spires – $77,570
4th: David Singontiko – $57,505
5th: Tong Le – $43,245
6th: Brandon Crawford – $32,900
7th: Tsung Lu – $25,520
8th Julie Franks – $20,025
9th: Vince Cardella – $15,935
