WSOPC: Kurt Jewell Wins Third Career Ring in Tunica
- Jessica Welman | February 14, 2012
In October of 2010, Kurt Jewell won what was, at the time, the largest World Series of Poker Circuit event in history. The Kentuckian picked up $242,909 for the win. He followed that up with a second ring victory at a small prelim WSOPC event in St Louis in April of last year. Now he has a third ring to his credit and joins the elite group of WSOPC players who have two WSOPC Main Event titles to his credit.
Jewell topped a field of 647 players in the WSOPC $1,600 Main Event at Harrahs Tunica in Mississippi on Monday to pick up his third career Circuit ring and a hefty payday of $192,984. The stop saw a 35% uptick in participation compared to last year’s event, which drew 480 players, but also did not feature re-entries as this one did.
Jewell and Jacob Bazeley were the big names at the Main Event final table, but it was the veteran Circuit winner who prevailed while Bazeley, who has made four WSOPC final tables but never captured a ring, finished fourth for $65,134.
The top 72 finishers each took home a piece of the $941,385 prize pool. Some of the notables who made the moeny include past WSOPCS Ring winners Kyle Cartwright (72nd), Sam Barnhart (49th), and Doug “Rico” Carli, who picked up his 58th career WSOPC cash by finishing in 13th place.
Several other notable names showed up for the festivities and failed to come home with a payday, such as Seneca Easley, Mark Smith, Eric Crain, La Sengphet, John Dolan, and Tom Franklin.
Jewell and Harrahs Tunica Casino Champion Steve Melton each earned a seat in the season-ending WSOPC $1 Million National Championship Freeroll. The WSOPC’s next stop is the Palm Beach Kennel Club in Palm Beach, Florida. The Florida series kicks off with a gigantic $555 buy-in event with three starting days and a $1 million guarantee on Thursday the 16th. The $1,600 Main Event will run from February 25th-27th.
Here are the final table results from the WSOPC Tunica Main Event:
1st: Kurt Jewell – $192,984
2nd: Chris Thompson – $119,415
3rd: Dan Goldman – $87,586
4th: Jacob Bazeley – $65,134
5th: Dustin Gardner – $49,093
6th: Steve McClusky – $37,495
7th: Michael Cooper – $29,013
8th: Todd Chew – $22,744
9th: Ray Weaver – $18,056
